The Long Wait

When the bus finally arrived yesterday, I was very angry. I had been standing in the rain for forty minutes. My umbrella was useless because the wind had been blowing hard since the morning. Had I been checking the timetable? Yes, I had, but the bus was late anyway. My feet were cold because I had been walking in wet shoes. By the time I got home, I had been shivering for a long time.

The Exhausted Student 

Look at Mark! He looks very tired because he has been studying for his exam all night. He has been sitting at his desk since yesterday evening. Has he been sleeping at all? No, he has not. He has been drinking a lot of coffee to stay awake. His eyes are red because he has been reading small text for hours. We have been waiting for him to finish so we can go out, but he has been studying non-stop.

A Career Milestone

By next June, I will have been working at this company for ten years. Will I have been living in the same city for a decade too? Yes, I will. My boss will have been leading our team for five years by the time I get my promotion. I will not have been wasting my money on small things by the end of this year, because I will have been saving every cent for a big trip. By the end of the day, I will have been thinking about my future for hours!
