Look for: To try to find something or someone.

Look down: To literally direct your gaze downwards.

  • Example: She looked down at the ground.

Look down on: To think that you are better than someone or something; to have a low opinion of.

  • Example: Some people look down on manual labor.

Look after: To take care of someone or something.

  • Example: Could you look after my cat while I'm on holiday?

Look out: To be careful; to be vigilant.

  • Example: Look out! There's a car coming.

Look over: To examine something quickly.

  • Example: Could you look over my essay for any errors?

Look through: To read something quickly, especially to find something specific.

  • Example: I'll look through the report and see if I can find the information.

Look into: To investigate or examine something carefully.

  • Example: The police are looking into the cause of the accident.

Look ahead: To think about what will happen in the future and plan for it.

  • Example: It's important to look ahead and set goals.

Look back: To think about something that happened in the past.

  • Example: When I look back on my childhood, I have many happy memories.

Look around: To explore a place, especially to see what is there.

  • Example: We spent the afternoon looking around the old town.
